orofacial pain sleep apnea

Trauma to the neck, face and jaw can be a serious life changing event. If injuries are not dealt with soon after an accident, they can evolve into chronic pain situations. When pain lasts longer than 3 to 6 months, or beyond the usual time for recovery, it is said to be chronic. Experiencing pain day after day, where the pain does not get any better, doctors cannot help, and pain medication does not work, is a terrible burden. Research done to measure the amount of pain a chronic pain patient endures can show that chronic pain sufferers score as low, on quality of life scales, as people with more life threatening illnesses such as chronic lung disease or AIDS.

The sooner the injury is treated, the better the outcome.
